P1: NICOLAS WILLIAMS HUGHES
Mid April – mid June 2021
Stephanie Lüning was due to be Tenthaus P1 residency artist in Tistedal, Halden in Spring 2021. Due to Covid-19 travelling restrictions, the dates are yet to be confirmed. Stephanie Lüning is an artist dealing with the transient, indefinite, processual and above all the border areas in her works. It’s about reaching the point where boundaries disappear where one passes into another; physically, bodily, emotionally. The point at which delineation (and control) dissolves. To fix this point of the intermediate area in painting and sculpture; “In my painterly results I capture exactly this moment of origin of the works by collecting traces of actions and “stills” of the processual actions”. Through my initiated painterly set-ups, I deliberately hand over the artistic process of creation. In my way of finding images, I never use a brush or pen. Instead, I work with colored foams, colored ice blocks, waxes or colored soap bubbles. I would like to bring this experimental approach to an artistic expression to the students. I would also like to encourage them to work and think outside of traditional methods. I invite the students to try out various working methods that I have developed and to develop my own painting and artistic methods from this input.
Stephanie Lüning lives and works in Dresden, Germany and in the US.
