Three days before the opening of Momentum 12, I had the opportunity to join Stephanie Lüning and the curator Stefan Schröder at the P1 mobile studio for a relaxed chat. As our acquaintance deepened, we delved into our personal experiences, and I hope that you, too, can share in the intimacy of our conversation as Stephanie and Stefan opened up about their connection with art, and the curatorial process of “Collectivity Paintings, no. I & II Momentum Biennale and Island of Foam (version no. 24)”.
For MOMENTUM 12, Stephanie Lüning is developing two projects. The first is a series of Collectivity Paintings created from ink derived from plant-based waste such as beetroot, onion, and walnut collected from Galleri F15 restaurant and birch and apple tree barks from local farms. The second project is site-specific foam actions made from rainwater and collected water waste around the exhibition venue.
Stephanie Lüning works with painting, drawing and sculpture and makes public art interventions. Her public foam actions push boundaries for spectators to experience three-dimensional paintings, merging one thing into another–physically, emotionally, and substantially–and capturing a point of limbo between painting and sculpture. Through the work and resulting outcomes, the process of creating a sculpture or painting becomes visible. The results of the creation fix the process in a ceremoniously visual way and thus often seem raptured, appearing to have grown and possess a life based on themselves.

Stefan Schröder’s practice includes a range of media; such as drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and participatory art. Encounters with people, places, and their embedded narratives, found materials and processes of re-use and repair characterise his research-based work. His practice allows participation by sharing ideas, experiences and resources. Recent exhibitions, projects and commissions include venues such as Nasjonalmuseet, Oslo (2022); documenta fifteen, Kassel (2022); Nye Vinne skole, Verdal (2021); Kunstbanken Hedmark, Hamar (2020); Galerie Ursula Walter, Dresden (2019); IKM Museum, Oslo (2019); LevArt, Levanger (2019); Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (2017) and Galerie Gebr—Lehmann, Dresden (2016) among others. Schröder is a founding member of Tenthaus, Oslo.
Radio Momentum is a platform open to artists participating in MOMENTUM 12. It provides a bridge to a wider program of exhibitions, sound works, research, workshops, audio tours, interviews, discussions, and events.
